Jungfernheide (Nord)

On the western shore of the airport lake near Reinickendorf is a dune, or, more precisely, probably the leftover part of the excavated material from the quarry pond. I am sitting on the western slope, lake and Tegel Airport at my back, at ‘half-tree-height’, looking into the forest, which is the northern part of the Jungfernheide, which Tegel Airport separates from the more well-known southern landscape park of that name.

Evening strollers, a few children running wildly up and down the dune. A girl discovers me drawing, a summoned boy says, oh, he’s just copying. The girl likes my drawing anyway and I think about ‘copying’ while endlessly inking leaves.

It’s a little bit of autumn already and the leaves will drop off soon and I’m not sad about it. I’ve painted enough leaves for this year.
